How can our minds be renewed by God’s Word?

“I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the Word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.” (1 John 2:14) “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind”. (Romans 12:2)

Renewing our minds involve two important actions. 1. “Teach me YOUR way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth.” (Psalm 86:11) and 2. “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive EVERY THOUGHT to make it obedient to Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:3-5)

These two actions have great importance and require considerable sacrifice and initiative. Both are difficult because both go against human tendencies and habits. Neither will be successful without real commitment and faith. Obedience to God’s truth and taking natural thoughts captive will never be easy nor convenient.

Here are some guidelines to help us “renew our thinking” by God’s Word:

  • 1. Peter 2:2 ~ CRAVE the pure milk of the Word.
  • 2. John 16:13 ~ ASK the Holy Spirit to help you.
  • 3. 1 Timothy 4:15; 2 Tim. 2:15 ~ Be DILIGENT in your reading and study.
  • 4. Psalm 1:1-3 ~ MEDITATE daily. (Pray, reflect, study, write down)
  • 5. Hebrews 4:2 ~ BELIEVE AND TRUST God. God responds to our faith.
  • 6. James 1:22 ~ OBEY what it says immediately.
  • 7. Colossians 3:16 ~ SHARE it with others daily.
