Today's Insight

We must be ready to do spiritual battle all the time, day or night.

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes (strategies). Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 6:10-12)

Many Christians are shocked at the possibility of some cosmic warfare. The Bible reveals that there is indeed a spiritual battle happening and that Satan is a real being with a determination to hinder any believer from serving God and bringing precious lives to God.

The apostle Peter challenges Christians to be “alert” because “your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour”. This is not “fairy tale” talk. The Bible teaches that Satan is an angel who rebelled against God with other angels, and that they are now called demons. God has allowed them certain actions, the most common is to keep us from knowing, trusting, enjoying and serving God. God challenges us to stay “alert”. This is serious business because Satan wants to devour or render us “harmless” to his kingdom. If he can convince us to believe his lies, he can then cause us to do really bad things. If he can deceive us, he can influence or control us. Jesus said that Satan is a murderer and a liar. His truth is always a distortion of God’s truth. He knows our weaknesses and regularly tempts us in those areas. Jesus was describing Satan when He said, “the thief comes ONLY to steal and kill, and to destroy.” Really? Yes! He went on to say, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)

How can we succeed in this conflict? We must understand his strategies and also understand our weapons and the power of our God. We will talk about these more in later days.

“And DO NOT give the devil a foothold.” (Ephesians 4:27)
